Testimonials for Personal Trainer, Lisa Dougherty

Valerie
April 12, 2010

I’ve just celebrated my 1st birthday, working with Lisa as my personal trainer!

After healing up from bunion surgery last March, I decided I needed to be held accountable for my physical fitness. I thought after a few sessions with a trainer I’d be set up and on my own. Well…as I’ve just mentioned my one year fitness birthday…. I see no end in sight.

Working with Lisa has made a big difference in my balance, posture, strength, and confidence. Those differences are major accomplishments; especially when one is able to purchase the senior tickets at the theatre and still working hard in these days of long hours in a tough business climate.

Whole Body Fitness has become a positive part of my life. Coming to my workouts whether on the weekend or after a workday (I have the horrible 405 commute to LA) gives me a life lift. Lisa combines her fun and cheerful personality with her workout routines. I love the feeling of accomplishment and improved self image that comes with the commitment to improve one’s fitness.

Health and wellness starts with a decision. The team at Whole Body Fitness is a great group of professionals and a wise choice towards good health.

“Just Do It”.

New WBF Trainer Jennifer Tsai’s story…
aka “how I loved Whole Body Fitness so much I joined the team!”

I first found Whole Body Fitness last year as I was searching for a trainer for my mom. My mom has a Multiple Scolosis. This medical condition makes her feet hurt when she stands for long periods. Lisa Dougherty was one of the few trainers I found who advertised specialization in special medical needs and I thought she and my mom might be a good fit. After a few sessions with Lisa, my mom suggested that I might enjoy working out with Lisa too…and that’s how it all began.

Working with Lisa has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. I’ve always loved running and will do cardio any day of the week, but I absolutely d0 not like to do weights. In fact, in the entire year I’ve trained with Lisa I cannot think of a single instance where I picked up a weight when she was not looking. When I first started I also had a sore knee that was constantly aggravated by running. An orthopedic specialist recommended strengthening my quadriceps (upper leg muscles), but I wasn’t quite sure what exercises to do. My ultimate goal was to run a half marathon but I doubted I’d ever accomplish such a long run without my knee bothering me.

Less than a year later I can now boast toned arms (which I never thought I’d have!), more lean body mass, and an injury-free half marathon under my belt. I have gotten many unsolicited compliments from friends who say I look leaner and fitter. My mom even commented that my posture was better, thanks to balanced muscles that are now strong enough to stop my shoulders from slouching. For the first time in my life I feel really in shape and it’s great! Training has strengthened my quadriceps and other leg muscles, helping to stabilize my knee during runs. Along with orthotics I was able to run the full 13.1 mile race with no knee pain – amazing!

The decision to leave a full time job as a software engineer and become a personal trainer wasn’t easy. Many extreme life events converged to bring me to this path. What really sold me in the end is that after a day in the office and sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours I left feeling completely drained. Working out at the gym, in contrast, gave me energy and always I left feeling ready for more. I figured I love getting to know people and working out so why not take this opportunity to combine both into a new career? I absolutely look forward to being part of the Whole Body Fitness team. My goal is to help people of all health and ability levels (go mom!) improve their fitness and quality of life.

Phu's Story
April 2009

I'm a 31 year old guy that's been fat (270 lbs. at 5'8") my entire life.  I've tried pills, exercise, joined fitness clubs, bought thousands of dollars of in-home gym equipments ........ only to give up after a while and revert to my old, comfortable ways.

Well, at the beginning of this year, I told myself I'm going to lose the weight, I'm going to be healthy!  I have a one year old baby now, and boy if there's anything that's going to make you get your priorities straight?

My wife works at Santa Ana College with Cher & Carl Carrera (they have shared her success story on WBF website, and Cher referred us to Lisa Dougherty.  So I thought I'd give it a shot and give Lisa a call.  After talking to her and reading through WBF website, I told my wife I didn't want to do the program.  I thought, they're only going to say what I already know; eat healthy and exercise.  How hard can that be?  I don't need to pay hundreds of dollars for that?  So, I decided to call up Lisa and tell her thanks, but no thanks.  When I called up Lisa, she talked me back into joining her program.

Besides marrying my wife, that has been the BEST decision of my life.

The program began with some tests; Lisa did a food/nutrition analysis of my diet and I got dunked (way cool).  Getting dunked (Fitness Wave) is an underwater weight test and breathing test that gave me critical numbers about my metabolism and body fat %.  With these numbers, Lisa mapped out a program that was going to change my eating habits, and she hooked me up with Kent (my personal trainer ) to get me to begin exercising regularly, all with a goal of losing 90 pounds (down to about 180 lbs.) by the end of the year.  My first goal was to be down to 248 lbs. by April 1st.  It's March 30 when I wrote this article, and yesterday when I weighed myself, I was 248.8 lbs.  So, goal #1 accomplished!  Next goal, 218 by July 1st.  Hope y'alls check back next at the next newsletter for an update.

But losing 21 lbs in 3 months is only a small part of my story.  I want to share with you how my life has completely changed.  In the beginning, I just wanted to lose the weight.  I thought about getting the lapband procedure.  I thought about lipo suction.  I thought about low carb diets , and high carb diets, low protein diets, and high protein diets .  But I also knew that if this was going to be a life changing decision, it would require life style changes .  And this is where Lisa's program is the best program out there.  It's really quite a simple and logical program.

  • Eat a balanced diet of healthy, nutritious foods .
  • Eat in moderation
  • Exercise consistently

I used to think that eating healthy only means eating low calorie or low fat foods . Boy was I wrong.  I'm Vietnamese, and the 2 biggest killers amongst Vietnamese are hypertension and diabetes .

We Vietnamese are more susceptible to hypertension because we eat a lot of salty foods.  Almost every meal involves fish sauce , which is loaded with sodium.  Another example is Pho.  A bowl of Pho has about 2000-2500 milligrams of sodium.  Well, your recommended daily intake is 2500 milligrams of sodium.  So, if you eat of bowl of Pho, that's almost equal 100% of your entire day's recommended sodium intake.

The other killer in the Vietnamese community is diabetes.  Simply put, diabetes when your sugar levels are high.  Well, almost every Vietnamese meal is served with white rice , which turns into sugar, but without any nutrients.  That's why we see so many older Vietnamese die of diabetes.  So, what I've done and what I'd recommended to everyone, especially my fellow Vietnamese, is to switch to brown rice .  Brown rice has all the nutrients that white rice has been stripped of.  But even if you do switch to brown rice, you must moderate your intake (because us Vietnamese eat too much rice to begin with!).

Aside from eating less fatty and lower calorie foods, and watching my sodium and sugar intake, I've also learned you must eat a balanced diet.  Fats, carbs, proteins, dairies, sugars, sodium, vitamins etc., are all important.  So, the key is getting the correct amount of each nutrients into your body.  That's why Atkins or all these other diets that over-emplasize some nutrients and while depriving your body of others, might help you lose the weight in the short-run, but will do tremendous harm to your body in the long-run.

These are just some of the things I've learned about nutrition.  But nutrition is only half the story.  Eating right without exercise is like going to a basketball game and leaving at halftime.

Before I started exercising, my body used to get really tired at the end of a long day's work.  My joints would ache and I just wanted to sit on the couch and watch TV.  I didn't have the energy do anything.  Since exercising consistently, the aching of my joints have disappeared and my energy level is way up, especially after a good workout day (in which I burn over 1000 calories easily).  I've learned that you can eat the healthiest foods in the world, but if you don't exercise, you will not be a healthy person.  The foods you eat will turn into fat instead of muscle, and your body will get used to being lazy and inactive, and in turn, it will affect your body, metabolism, energy level, and psyche.  So, as Covert Baily said, eating right has to be coupled with exercise.  No exceptions!

So, all in all, the program has gone great.  I don't feel like I'm on a diet, but more that I've made a lifestyle change ; to be more healthy, to be more balanced, to be more fit. And I hope my story will inspire others to do the same. You owe it to your loved ones, and to yourself.

Carl and Cheryl's Story
August 2008

I’ve always been proud of my husband, Carl, for regularly donating blood: almost ten gallons of whole blood and/or platelets over three decades. I especially support and am in awe of his commitment because, as a survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and thyroid cancer, I am not eligible to give blood. A couple of years ago, Carl was asked by the Red Cross to consider donating platelets (apheresis) instead of whole blood. The apheresis process takes a little longer but allows up to 12 donations each year. So, one Saturday each month, we make “our” donation: I donate a few of the scant hours I would normally spend with my husband and he donates his blood/platelets.

Then it happened. It was October ’07 when Carl went to make his monthly platelet donation, his blood pressure was too high, and he was sent home. It was a huge wake-up call. We both knew that we were overweight but that hadn’t seemed to keep us from doing things that were important to us. But THIS was important and something had to be done.

I knew the problems… (1) I never really learned how to cook so we ate out almost every night and (2) we didn’t exercise. I also knew that we needed help. Not the ready-to-eat kind of help we had tried before. We had lost weight yo-yo style several times before: Grapefruit & Chicken, Low Carb, No Carb, Slim-Fast, Medifast, NutriSystem, Lindora. You name it; we had lost weight doing it. We were both really good following meal plans and losing weight but the pounds had always returned just waiting for the next diet attempt.

Thankfully, an extensive internet search led me to Whole Body Fitness. I explained our situation to Lisa who was sure she could help us evaluate, rethink, and organize our lives in a healthy way to help us lose weight and adopt habits that would sustain the loss and improve our overall health. There would be no pre-packaged foods, no vitamin shots, no pills, and no unrealistic expectations.

Two months later, in December ’07 we began with a hydrostatic weighing (Does this bathing suit really fit?) and three days of keeping track of everything we ate. We sent all the information to Lisa and, when we finally had our first face-to-face meeting, she had evaluated our eating habits and come up with a plan. Lisa began showing us how to substitute low-calorie, high-nutrition items into our meals. I remember being especially struck by her concern that we learn to avoid the deprivation that often accompanies “dieting.” She asked, “What can you not live without?” For Carl the answer was “a glass of wine with dinner” and for me it was simply “sorbet.” Ok then, “we’ll budget it in.” We also planned a sensible and realistic exercise program and Lisa explained the magic of the number 3500. We left that first meeting with a notebook full of articles to read, videos to watch, and self-evaluations to complete. It was just the beginning of our physical and mental makeover.

We continued to meet with Lisa both in person and with coaching calls. We kept our diet diaries, exercised with heart monitors, and watched the pounds melt away. Carl (an engineer) and I (a math teacher) decided to be hydrostatically weighed on a quarterly basis because of the satisfaction we both get from numerical data. But the progress was just as obvious to see by the fit of our clothes and the extra room in our seats at Angel stadium.

It didn’t take long, just a few weeks, for Carl’s blood pressure to drop enough that he could resume his monthly apheresis sessions. After about three months, I was able to quit taking medication for elevated cholesterol. I’m now a size 6 and 20% body fat. Strangers at the park where I like to walk/jog have told me that I’m “obviously a runner” and I’m happy with the way the backs of my arms don’t jiggle anymore. Carl has a 32-inch waist and is now 17% body fat. We’ve each lost about 40 pounds and have now moved on to maintenance…yes, Lisa is helping us with that too.

Unlike the glossy and brightly packaged (but, oh, so temporary) silver-bullet “programs,” the Whole Body Fitness philosophy is a common sense, low profile, “I should have had a V8” approach to fitness that can work for a lifetime. Carl and I plan to continue periodic hydrostatic weighing and coaching calls with Lisa, eating delicious and healthy foods, and exercising for cardiovascular, muscular, and skeletal health. The support and education that we received through Whole Body Fitness will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Dr. Cheryl Carrera

Dear Lisa,

Poor personal training experiences in the past resulted in me being less than optimistic when I began researching personal trainers in early 2007. Yours was among the first name I came across and reluctantly, I contacted you to set up a consultation. When we first met, I was struck by your enthusiasm and dynamic personality, but more so, by how confident you seemed in your ability to help others realize better health. Despite our positive meeting, I remained reticent about the prospect of personal training; yet, within a couple of days, I contacted you to begin training. After all, I told myself, if nothing else, I could reinforce my belief that personal training wasn’t for me. I would have never have guessed how working with you would change my life for the better or so dramatically change how I feel on a daily basis.

It is important for the readers of this letter to realize that by age 29, I had managed to go from an extreme level of physical fitness -- I was a collegiate dancer and volleyball player -- to a total lack thereof. 10 years at University had led me to a state of near atrophy. Moreover, I suffered from constant back pain, muscle spasms, and headaches from spending endless hours in front of a computer. I hadn’t let myself acknowledge what poor form I had allowed myself to grow into. Yet, within a few one hour sessions of working with you, my body begin to take on tone and strength. Each time we worked together, you doted on how much I was progressing and encouraged me to “keep at it.” The early weeks of training can be a time of shocking realization…for me, it was a mix of awe and anger: Awe at how my body was able to bounce back after nearly six years of a sedentary lifestyle and anger at myself for caring so little about my health that I had forgone exercise for so long. However, awe and anger have long been replaced by confidence and enthusiasm!

A big part of why I am writing this letter is because of how much I believe in you and in your ability to help others realize a better state of physical well-being. Though I had the initiative to get in better shape, I didn’t have the know-how. You, however, have that “know-how” in spades. Your knowledge is amazing. You don’t just teach me a move, you inform me about the reason for doing each movement and how it will change my body for the better.

While I value the knowledge I have gained from working with you, what I appreciate most is how you encourage and believe in me. If I say, “I think I can do it,” you respond with, “I know you can.” If I say, “Lisa, this is tough,” you smile and say, “I know it is. But, I know you can do it.” You have given me so much confidence in my body and in my own strength. You trust that I know my body’s limits and you never push me past them. I’ve always disliked the aggressive training approach where I feel like I’ve done all I can, but I have a trainer screaming at me, “10 more!” You respect my body and that makes me respect you even more.

My previous experience with personal trainers was nothing short of ridiculous and absurd. Most personal trainers have earned that title through a single weekend retreat. The “workout” they put you through is formulaic; they haven’t a clue about technique; and they’re typically as uneducated about physiology as the lay person. You, Lisa, on the other hand, reflect the polar opposite of these types of trainers. Not only are you incredibly and impressively educated and experienced, you perfect technique which prevents injury -- who knew sit-ups could be done without it wrenching the neck? -- and you attend to your clients. How wonderful it is to know that you are always watching me to make sure things are as they should be!

It has been almost one year since I started training with you and I grow more thankful each day for what it is you have given me: Confidence, strength, health, and a new belief in my body’s innate abilities. There aren’t enough words in the modern lexicon that can justly describe how you've changed my life. You are an outstanding trainer and just a fun, funny, and energetic person to be around. My two weekly workouts are among the few activities to which I most look forward. Regardless of what’s going on in my life -- stress, an overscheduled day, just anything -- I always leave my training session feeling 100% improved.

For those of you reading this letter, I hope you are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Lisa. She is the best investment you can ever make in yourself.

Sincerely,

Dr. Laura Triplett-Callahan

September 21, 2007

I have been training with Lisa for three years, before, during and after my pregnancy. I can’t stress enough how much of a difference she’s made. I was fortunate enough to find Lisa through an internet search and stumbled on her website. After meeting and training with Lisa, it was very clear that fitness, health and nutrition is truly her life’s passion. I had worked with trainers off and on for the past 10 years, but never anyone like Lisa. She is the most professional, genuine trainer and person I’ve ever met. It is no wonder why she is such a success both in her personal life and professional career.

Prenatal Experience
While every mother’s experience is different, I had an easy pregnancy for which I attribute to my fitness training and prenatal training with Lisa. I continued my running and strength training exercise according to the heart rate guidelines my doctor wanted me to stay within. Women at the gym would tell me that I was doing the best thing for myself and baby. I had numerous mothers tell me how quick and relatively painless their deliveries were without an epidural. They each attributed it as a direct result of exercising and maintaining good muscle tone throughout their pregnancies. Lisa showed me how to exercise without getting hurt or hurting my baby. Based on feedback she asked for and my heart rate during our sessions, she was able to adjust my workouts according to my level and how many weeks gestation I was at.

Even with all the regular exercise, I still gained a healthy 23 pounds. I trained with Lisa right up until the day before I delivered.

Birth Experience
My labor was a total of 2 hours from my water breaking to delivering my full-term baby boy. While I didn’t plan on going it without an epidural, things progressed so quickly that by the time I made it to the hospital an hour later, it was no longer an option. While waiting for my OB to arrive, the labor nurses couldn’t believe the control I had in blowing through contractions to slow things down while I waited and then pushing through contractions when my doctor finally arrived. I believe this control is a direct result of the modified strength training and breathing technique Lisa emphasized during my personalized prenatal workouts. My OB commented to the nurses that I had exercised throughout my entire pregnancy and that had contributed to how smoothly and quickly things were progressing. I never asked for pain relief because I simply didn’t need it. An hour after delivering, I was able to get off the bed on my own and push my baby to my room. It was such a freeing sensation to be able to move, something I would not have been able to do with an epidural.

Postnatal Training
I was allowed to begin post-natal exercise after 6 weeks although I felt I could’ve started earlier. Lisa had already planned for several areas for me to work on as part of my postnatal reconditioning. She helped me check for abdominal separation, a common postnatal condition, and emphasized the type of abdominal exercise to help close the gap and avoid certain exercises that might exasperate the condition. She emphasized the importance of pelvic floor strengthening and demonstrated neutral spine (proper posture) to counteract the postural changes caused by pregnancy.

After 10 weeks of postnatal training, I was back at my pre-pregnancy weight and under 18% body fat.

If you are contemplating a prenatal fitness plan, consider all the health benefits that come with staying fit during this special time, and consider training with Lisa. She will be the most devoted and committed trainer you will ever train with.

Eric Fried

Six months ago, I was looking for a new trainer. I had worked with trainers from other organizations and was not happy with the results I was getting. I found Lisa on a search through Google, met with her the following Saturday, started working with her and never looked back. As I started working with her as a trainer, I decided to also participate in her Lifestyle Weight Management Program, which very clearly high-lighted some problems in my current eating habits. Not only that, she offered unique and easy to implement solutions to easily modify my eating habits to a much healthier level. And what’s most important, they tasted good, too :).

When I started working with Lisa, my overall weight was 162 lbs and a body fat percentage of 26%. After working with her for only six months, my weight dropped to 147 lbs with a body fat percentage of 14%. WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! This is ALL due to her, and her incredible staff (Robin).

I am continually impressed with how professional and well-trained her, and her staff are. I think what impresses me most is how committed they all are, to giving their clients the best possible training, while keeping the workouts fun, fresh and challenging. I look forward to continue working with her and her team in the months and years ahead.

Thanks Lisa, you’re AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Lifestyle Weight Management Program

After several unsuccessful attempts to “self-medicate” myself to become fit, I determined that I needed professional assistance. I discovered Lisa and Whole Body Fitness on the web, liked what I read, and signed up with Lisa.

Lisa’s approach is precisely what I needed. I was educated as an engineer, and I needed to understand the science and logic of the endeavor before committing to it. She helped me to define meaningful objectives based on my resting metabolic rate and my lean body mass, and she prescribed objectives with a diet and exercise process consistent with making a lifestyle change to become and stay fit. And she backed up her recommended program with significant reading and counseling to motivate and to drive home the science and reliability of the recommended approach.

After three months I am on schedule to achieve a weight loss of 40 pounds, and I have no question that I will achieve the ultimate target. More importantly, I have completely changed my dietary habits to consume significantly fewer calories while satisfying my appetite and nutritional needs, and I have committed to a sustainable exercise program as a critical element of the process.

Bottom line – Lisa has a well-conceived process to achieve and maintain fitness, and she communicates and motivates to facilitate success. The ultimate responsibility rests with the client, but any client who recognizes that there is no silver bullet for success will succeed by following Lisa’s user-friendly approach to achieving fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Lisa, the number of letters of recommendation I have written in my 47 years can be counted on about a hand and a half. I am, however, compelled to write a few words about the work that you do and the manner in which you do it. I had an opportunity to look at your Mission Statement and thought is would be helpful to compare the “what you say you will do” to the “what you really do”. After all, isn’t that the real measure of a business?

I will help educate, motivate and support my clients with a positive attitude in a relaxed atmosphere throughout the entire program.
My experience is that you have been completely supportive of my exercise requirements and have been about as even keeled in attitude as a person could possibly be. I know that I don’t always show up ready to take on the world but you are always ready to motivate and support.

I will be organized in planning a valuable fitness/eating program, and will provide clear directions and realistic feedback.
Your organized approach to our tri-weekly sessions is excellent. You have a plan, it is in writing, goals are set, records are broken and progress has been made. I also appreciate the variety that comes from the different workouts that alternate by day and by month.

I will help my clients plan and obtain measurable, realistic goals and optimize their chance for a successful experience.
My experience has been wholly successful and our goals have been both measurable and achievable.

I will support and inspire my clients in adopting a healthy-eating lifestyle by planning weekly meals to meet their nutritional needs.
This dimension of your practice is not one that I need but if required I am sure it would be equally as proficient as your training.

I will be a devoted lifetime learner in the areas of fitness and nutrition.
I know that you have continued your education on regular basis.

I will inspire people to change their lives by becoming more physically active and educate them on nutritional food choices.
Between quitting a 30+ year smoking habit, loosing 15 pounds and reducing my cholesterol and body fat my life/health has improved. While some of this work was done before we met, your positive influence continues to inspire success.

All in, I would say that the expectations that you set through you Mission Statement are indeed met. You and I have discussed the negative attributes of trainers. I have some degree of distain for a host of behaviors that trainers exhibit while collecting the session fee from clients. I am proud to say that the qualities you exhibit are exemplary and I would be delighted to discuss them with anyone you should refer to me for a reference.

Sincerely,

I’ve been training with Lisa Dougherty now for over 1 year and to put it succinctly, Lisa is an amazing trainer. When you first start training with Lisa, she determines an individual’s goals regarding their workout and establishes a benchmark as to where that individual’s current level of fitness is. She sets up distinct training programs that focus on every aspect of physical fitness including all muscle groups in the upper and lower body, cardio training, endurance, core, strength, balance, flexibility, etc. Lisa then rotates workouts to ensure complete fitness, and consistent variety. Her knowledge of all aspects of physical fitness is impressive. Lisa’s passion is always evident. She is constantly encouraging, and at the same time challenging you through your exercise routine. Lisa’s attention is entirely focused on her client during the workout. She literally counts out each rep, ensuring that your positioning for each exercise is exact to gain the most benefit and to ensure complete muscle utilization. Our company’s entire executive group now trains with her and the results are outstanding. Not only would I recommend Lisa as a personal trainer, I would urge anyone who wants a trainer who is passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and cares about their client’s physical fitness, a trainer who ensures their total body fitness, to sign up with Lisa today.

A year ago, in the fall of 2005, a friend of mine told me about a great fitness trainer that she had just started working with. Her review was so positive I became intrigued and wondered if maybe this would be the person who could help me become more physically in tune with my body. Three years earlier I had tried to ski, for the first time at 43 years old, and on my fourth day on the slopes had fell and torn my MCL and ACL in my left leg. Since I had torn my ACL in my right leg as a teenager that left me basically 'kneeless’, in my mind. Before the accident I was uncomfortable with my physical abilities and had avoided any type of sports activity. Now I lacked all self confidence in my physical abilities and actually feared that I would never be able to do anything physical again. I took the step and contacted Lisa.

Upon meeting with Lisa I immediately felt comfortable and knew that she was a person I could trust, someone who really cared about my well being and was focused on helping me. We began a training program and slowly but surely I began to have a mind-body connection that I had never experienced before. She introduced me to a stretching routine that I continue to do daily. It has become my body’s reward after a long day. I learned balance and coordination and used muscles that I had no knowledge existed. I have learned how to breathe properly and deeply. I have learned how to reach, lift, stand and even “active” sitting. She kept me focused and present on our daily progress, encouraging me through each and every workout. She convinced me that I could do this.

Since my husband and I travel quite a bit Lisa developed a workout program that would be easy for me to use on the road. It has come in very handy. Now when I walk into a gym I don’t just stand there and wonder what I should do, how many times, for how long and in what order. She has trained me well and most any gym I visit I can adapt my workout to the equipment and machines that they have.

Not long into our program Lisa began to encourage me to consider jogging. Listing all the attributes, high calorie burn in a short amount of time, cardio vascular fitness, lean muscle tone, ect… All I could think of was that there was no way with 'no knees’ that I was going to be able to jog. But Lisa can be very persuasive and one day we ran the 'loop’. I was huffing and puffing and sweating and felt as if my lungs would burst but darn if I didn’t do it! And Lisa as always was encouraging and positive in her assessment of my 'run’. That first jog gave me the confidence I needed to start my running program and I began that day. Three months later I ran my first 5k and did it in under 30 minutes, (29 minutes and 55 seconds!), along with the help and encouragement of one of Lisa’s trainer’s, Robin, who like Lisa is so positive and encourage you can’t help but succeed when working with her. It was a huge accomplishment for me, something I had never thought possible.

Lisa and her staff have trained me, encouraged me and helped me to make what I thought impossible possible. I am jogging 3-5 miles every other day, I ride my bike 20 miles with no problem I am even considering cross-country skiing this winter. Thanks to Whole Body Fitness the possibilities of my physical activities are only as endless as my desire to do them.

Rarely do you find someone with the education, experience, dedication, and professionalism in any profession, let alone personal training. Lisa has not only met my every expectation, but has surpassed them. Specifically, as a 40-something executive with 25 years of living life from behind a desk, I had physically weakened to the point where I was experiencing lower back and joint pain. Within 90 days of training with Lisa I have lost 50% of my body fat and increased my strength by 50%. More importantly it was challenging and fun. Today I am considering my first 5K or 10K run. Lisa has changed my life and more importantly how I view myself.

It is without reservation that I recommend Lisa Dougherty as a personal trainer. Allow me to state that I do not furnish recommendation letters lightly, but with Lisa I overwhelmingly felt compelled to do so.

Sincerely,

Lisa is a consummate fitness trainer, superbly qualified. She is professional, knowledgeable and caring. I highly recommend her.

I first met Lisa through my wife. My wife wanted to lose her post-pregnancy weight and found Lisa through the Internet. It was a very fortuitous find. My wife told me how impressed she was with Lisa – her qualifications, her extensive education and training, her friendliness and genuine desire to help. It wasn't easy, but after several months my wife lost the weight in a healthy way, and gained muscular tone and definition as well. She looked great.

At the time, I had my own "training" program consisting of going to the gym, lifting weights and playing golf. I thought I was in fairly good health, and I had no desire to work with and did not feel a need for a fitness trainer. The only problem was that I had a frequent tendency to injure my shoulder which would put me out for weeks at a time. After my last injury, my wife persuaded me to train with Lisa and learn how to lift weights more safely. I admit I was tired of getting injured and I figured I had nothing to lose, so I swallowed my pride and went to see Lisa. My original plan was to train for a few sessions, learn proper weightlifting techniques and be back at the gym in no time.

Well, Lisa had other plans for me. At our first meeting, I was immediately impressed by Lisa, and how she took the time to know my strengths, weaknesses and fitness goals. As a physician, it was also important to me that her training methods and fitness philosophy were consistent with my own medical training. Despite all of my questions, Lisa was very patient, and was able to support her answers with articles and studies. I was very impressed with her knowledge of physiology and body mechanics. She was thoroughly prepared, showed me exactly how to do each exercise, taught me how to breathe properly and paced me according to my ability.

One of the things I really appreciate about Lisa is how she employs multiple modalities of fitness training. I find it challenging and fun to be able to do something different every month. Although my initial purpose was just to learn safe weightlifting techniques, I realized that this was a mere by-product of Lisa's bigger plan for me – that of building up core body strength and functional strength. Her use of different exercise activities even led me to do yoga, which I never would have done on my own – and much to my surprise, I found that I actually enjoyed it. Lisa's workouts are complete, training every part of your body. Her multifaceted training approach produces a synergy of core body strength, agility and endurance.

After nearly one year, I still train with Lisa. And during this time I have grown stronger, lifted heavier, eaten healthier and, best of all, I haven't injured my shoulder.

Sincerely,

Eric Hsu, MD

Educator…coach…motivator…knowledgeable…intelligent…inspirational guide… mentor…friend…empathetic…problem solver…truly dedicated… always interested…constantly striving to be the best she can be. All of these words can be used to describe Lisa Dougherty!

Lisa’s approach to weight management is like her…multifaceted. The program is not just a cookie cutter of “don’t eat this” and “do that”- but the program is individualized to each person and their specific needs. Lisa listens and analyzes what is happening with each of her clients and makes sure that everyone (no matter where they are starting out from) gets to the same place. Thru books, videos, and hands on working in her kitchen- to a totally comprehensive binder…Lisa provides the tools and structure for TOTAL SUCCESS!

By the time I went to Lisa I was 345 lbs and had pretty much given up hope of my life ever returning to “normal”. From the first time I met Lisa, I could immediately sense her commitment and dedication along with her unique blend of support and non judgment. She is a solution finder…and is in all honesty… a rare find of skill and will- that I have not known to exist in many people. She immediately made me feel comfortable speaking about my weight- not a topic I would frequently visit. I had been on Jenny Craig for years and I did loose over 100 lbs on the program, but it was not permanent and also not practical in many ways. However- there is life after Jenny Craig and you don’t have to keep eating Jenny’s little meals that would have trouble filling Barbie herself- or declining dinner invitations on a weekly basis. Forget Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers or any other “diet” that you have been on…Lisa teaches healthy eating balanced with exercise will equal weight loss and also better health! At this point in my life it was looking like I was going to need to resort to gastro bypass surgery just like Carney Wilson, Randy from American Idol and so many other people have done. I know from experience that these surgeries can be life savers, but I really wanted to try to not have to go through such a drastic surgery –which isn’t easy considering my size. Surgery is not without risk and I knew that what ever I did this time would need to be a PERMANENT SOLUTION to a life long problem.

What I have gained from working with Lisa is not just some lost pounds but I feel like I now have control of my life! I am responsible for myself again. I already feel 100% better physically…I have lost weight…gained energy…lost my sense of hopelessness…and gained control of my life! Trust me about one thing…if I can do it anyone can do it! I didn’t have any idea how to cook…my grocery shopping consisted of whizzing past the produce on my way to the Dorito’s. I ate out probably at least 5 days a week and about the only thing that really got used in my kitchen was the microwave. I had never been to Mother’s Market and literally felt like a fish out of water as I wandered around looking at different items and wondering what the heck anyone did with these items. I drank Diet Coke like it was attached to me by an IV. It’s hard for me to imagine that was my life. I now understand that food is food. I don’t need butter lathered over everything…there are actually these things called spices!

I have so much to thank Lisa for…that one letter just doesn’t seem enough to cover it. She is an absolutely remarkable person that has changed my life and the lives of the people around me. Suddenly people are now asking me for nutritional advice and recipes and telling me what an inspiration I am to them in their lives! I could have never foreseen the change that has taken place…it is a complete lifestyle change! I have enjoyed my time with Lisa and felt like she was invested in my success with me…not just there to collect a check. Her job is part of her and it is a real gift that she is able to share so much of herself with her clients. Her dedication is something that you don’t see very often and her attitude is to be admired and emulated! Lisa is always available and accessible to answer any questions or concerns in an organized and professional manner and has a great list of referrals for just about any topic. The program is extremely well organized and her approach is subtle and effective. At no time did I feel overwhelmed or like I wasn’t able to do it. I have lost 20 pounds in 10 weeks and more importantly I have gained hope…more energy…an understanding of proper nutrition and exercise…and motivation to reach my goals!

I have adopted the motto: “It doesn’t matter if it takes a long time getting there; the point is to have a destination”. Thank you Lisa for being my tour guide on my destination to good health and fitness!

Re: Lifestyle Weight Management Program

I started working with Lisa Dougherty, as my personal fitness trainer, in March. After a few sessions it was clear that I was being coached by an expert in health, fitness, nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss and fitness were the main reasons for hiring Lisa, but I was also looking to make some lifestyle changes that would help me form better habits so I wouldn't slide back into my old pattern of losing weight and gaining it back later. Lisa explained her most successful clients participate in fitness training and the Lifestyle Weight Management Program, and that I would gain a deeper understanding of how exercise and nutrition go hand-in-hand in creating the body I wanted. Her program is not a diet. It is about being good to your body and giving it what it needs to be the best it can be.

Over the next six weeks in the LWM program I was given all of the tools and support I needed to make the changes in my shopping, dining and eating habits that are now integrated into my daily routine. Lisa analyzed what I was eating from my food diary. I went to FitnessWave and had my body fat and metabolism measured. We met at her home for in depth discussions of how we would work together and what results I could expect. She brought out a lot of things from her own pantry to show me how to make better choices comparing brands and products. She also told me how she manages her nutrition with her busy schedule. I saw first hand how it could be done and that I really had limitless possibilities in creating a fun and healthy menu. Faithfully, I followed Lisa's lessons. I took her suggestions. I did my homework. I read the materials and watched the videos. I asked my questions. Lisa gave me great insights into how the body really responds best to a variety of whole foods rather than prepackaged meals, fast food, or even my daily breakfast smoothie.

I honestly did not know how absent of nutrition my eating habits had been! Lisa prepared an analysis that showed on a graph how little value I was getting for the vast amount of calories I was consuming. Each week, I turned in my food diary and upon reviewing it with Lisa, I made subtle changes week by week. I put her program to the test and everything she suggested is based on sound nutrition, realistic planning, and practical guidelines for optimum health. As I implemented each change, I noticed my energy increase; I began sleeping more restfully; I managed my high stress job better; my workouts were more effective; and the pounds were dropping.

The LWM program has taught me how to make smart choices for my body when it comes to shopping for groceries, preparing my food, dining out, and eating well for the rest of my life. To date, I've lost 20 pounds and I feel great. Working with Lisa is great experience. She required a lot and matched every effort I made with equal enthusiasm, support, encouragement and expertise. I've completed the LWM program and have not stopped using the principles that have become healthy everyday habits. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to improve their health, lose weight or experience how good you can feel if you treat yourself well.

Re: Personal Training

After interviewing with several other trainers I've found Lisa Dougherty has all the attributes I was looking for in a personal trainer. First, she has a strong educational background in the field of physical fitness. It was important to me to feel safe and confident in the person in whom I'd be placing life and limb. I hadn't used my gym membership in over 15 years and I was afraid I would hurt myself if I tried to use the equipment by myself. And I wanted to work with someone who had much more than a "weekend personal trainer workshop." Clearly, Lisa has the background, experience and commitment I was looking for. I signed up for 20 sessions and started working with Lisa twice a week in March. So far I have achieved a weight loss of 20 pounds, loss of overall body fat, an increase in lean muscle mass, and I feel great! My friend Claudia remarked that I looked like I was really happy with myself. Yes, I am. I also completed Lisa's 6-week Weight Management Program to enhance and accelerate my progress. Combining exercise and proper nutrition have proven to be the perfect formula for my success. I'm well on my way to establishing healthy lifestyle choices that will last for the rest of my life.

During the workouts, I am now able to use a combination of machines, free weights and some really fun gym "toys." Lisa explains and demonstrates the proper physical form for each exercise, which is exactly what I knew I needed to keep me from injuring myself. She makes sure that I execute each exercise properly with the appropriate amount of stretching. weight and breathing technique. She's helped me improve my posture, balance, stamina, and strength. Each workout is different and the challenge level has been a very gradual, but steady increase. Her positive attitude, kindness, and energy are a great source of encouragement. "Good job!" "When you're ready." "You can do it!" she says.

She charts and documents everything as we go along. Even though we've been training for 13 weeks, she still takes the time to properly demonstrate each exercise for me. In addition, Lisa explains which muscle groups I should be using and gives me great tips on how to get a sense of which muscles should be working for me. She has an exceptional understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the muscloskletal system and I'm really starting to feel the benefits of good technique and I'm able to flex and extend muscles I never knew I had.

Next, Lisa has an abundance is professionalism and integrity. She is the consummate professional and treats her clients with respect and dignity. She is authentic, reliable, punctual and genuinely concerned for my individual health and fitness needs. She has a way of making me feel like her partner during the workout. Often she will do the exercises beside me to help set the pace or acts as a mirror to show me the correct stance. In between sessions she makes herself available by phone or e-mail to address any questions and concerns or to confirm an appointment if my schedule changes. My questions are always answered quickly and completely. She often brings me articles from her library that she thinks may be helpful. Lisa sets high standards for herself and this reflects in her dealings with her clients and her peers. It is most apparent that her own level of health and fitness is the model for everything she endeavors to deliver as a trainer. She is in excellent athletic condition and has boundless energy.

If she weren't my personal trainer, I would be drawn to her as an innovative business professional and successful entrepreneur. Her website is exceptional. She has created comprehensive programs for women, teens, couples, brides, pregnancy, weight loss, nutrition, and fitness and she's continuing to create more! Everything she does as the owner of her company, including her newsletter, e-mails, invoices, and notes of encouragement illustrate Lisa's commitment to the highest level of service and quality she can provide.

One of the best reasons for having Lisa as a personal trainer is that she is positive and motivational. From the first time we met, I felt very much "at ease." I always look forward to my workouts and over the course of the past few months I can say that no two workouts with Lisa have been the same! I know I work harder than I would without her by my side. She supports me and listens to my needs and she is always improvising and coming up with new ways to help me achieve my goals by keeping the workouts fresh and interesting. Lisa is very upbeat and has a great sense of humor as well. She closes her e-mail messages to me with "your coach and success partner." I can't think of a time when I have felt more supported.

Last and certainly not least, Lisa Dougherty is very personable. Considering that we would be spending many hours together over several months, I wanted to find a trainer that I could relate to. Lisa is intelligent, concise, clear and logical. Her ability to train a variety of clients is extraordinary ranging from teens to older adults of all abilities and backgrounds. She is comfortable sharing her own experiences but more important she is a good listener. Her knowledge of how to help her clients is only exceeded by her sparkling enthusiasm. I feel so fortunate to have Lisa on my team. I not only feel better physically but I have more self-confidence. I have more energy. I sleep more restfully than I have in years. I've found my workouts are especially great for reducing personal and professional stress. As a result of working with Lisa as my personal trainer, I have absolutely no doubt I will continue and succeed in achieving my fitness goals.

So if you are looking for a great personal trainer - whether you haven't exercised in years, want to improve your health and well-being or are a competitive athlete, I can highly recommend Lisa Dougherty as your choice for a personal trainer.

I've been working with Lisa Dougherty for just two months, and already I can see the difference in my body, in my attitude, and in my whole life.

For some time before I met Lisa, I'd been mulling over what I could do to feel fitter. I decided that with working with a personal trainer would be ideal - if I could just locate one who understood the challenges I face because I have fibromyalgia. One who was willing to work within the constraints imposed upon me by the chronic pain disorder.

Luckily, I found Lisa.

Every workout with her challenges me physically - but I never feel like my fibromyalgia has slipped her mind. She's always concerned about what is best for me, both physically and emotionally, and is willing to accommodate my needs.

On top of that, she's knowledgeable, dedicated, and prepared for every session. She constantly shares new information and ideas with me, so I can get the most out of that day's workout and incorporate fitness into every aspect of my life. She's even got a sense of humor - so great, in fact, that I actually look forward to the rigor of our sessions!

I'm glad I made the decision to work with a personal trainer - and grateful that the trainer that I found was Lisa Dougherty.

Erin McNamara
July 2005

When I started my search for a Personal Trainer, little did I know, I would find such an exceptional individual and professional, as I have found in Lisa Dougherty. In November 2005, I was in search of finding a Personal Trainer that would help me take my workout and fitness to the next level. I found Lisa and she has not only taken my workout program to the next level, but she has brought my health, nutrition, and fitness to a level of awareness I could not have achieved on my own. Working with Lisa has been an educational experience that will forever change my thinking and lifestyle around being healthy and fit. Lisa’s workout programs offered me the challenge I needed to achieve my fitness goals and her encouragement and motivation has kept me focused with continuing the program when I train with Lisa and when I train on my own.

Not only have I trained with Lisa the last several months, I also participated in Lisa’s “Lifestyle Weight Management” nutrition program. This program significantly changed my eating habits as well as my thinking about eating whole nutritious foods. Lisa helped me gain an understanding for meal planning and eating nutritious food that my body would benefit from. I learned about reading labels and how self-defeating eating “empty calories” are to my diet with an active lifestyle. I learned to prepare meals for my fiancé, and myself that we both enjoy! Lisa has shared wonderful recipes with me and passed along so many useful articles, books, videos, and information that continues to educate me in the area of nutrition. What I appreciate most about working with Lisa is she is not one to teach a person to “diet” or promote the latest trendy weight loss programs. Lisa’s approach is to educate her clients on eating nutritionally to support their lifestyle and weight management goals. Lisa’s “Lifestyle Weight Management” program provided me with the knowledge and “know how” to plan for nutritious meals and lifestyle of eating well.

As a professional Personal Trainer, Lisa will get you to the next level! Lisa’s knowledge, experience, strength, encouragement, and professionalism, has inspired me to be a better person. Lisa has changed my life and had a significant impact on who I am today…and who I will be the next several years of my life. What I have learned from Lisa will be with me forever, in fitness and health…and my life going forward.

Lisa…thank you…for being so wonderful in all that you do. Thank you for helping me be the best person I can be…you are a true inspiration!

We started working out with Lisa a year ago. When we first started, we had not run since we were in high school. In school, running was used as punishment. If the class was no behaving, the teachers would send us out to run laps around the track. We grew to hate running and had not tried running again for over 10 years. When Lisa first told us that she would turn us into runners, we laughed. Little did we know, however, that Lisa would change everything!

Through Lisa’s training, we learned about the important benefits of cardio exercise. From there, she showed us correct form and taught us “how to run”, something that teachers never taught us. We have to admit that when we first started jogging it wasn’t fun. Our first time out, we could barely run one lap around the track without stopping. But we kept with it and Lisa continued to encourage us. Within a month, we were running 2-3 miles without stopping! But what was even more amazing was the change in our attitude. We started out hating running and we actually look forward to our daily jog!

We never would have believed that we could actually become “runners” and if it weren’t for Lisa, we never would have found the joy that now find in running!

I just want to say "Congratulations" on this well-deserved and hard-earned honor of Master Level Trainer granted by IDEA Health and Fitness Organization! Each step of the way to starting your own business to live out your dreams, with no one to show you the way, was a huge challenge, and one that I know you are proud of, Lisa.

Clients of Whole Body Fitness - just know this: Lisa's extensive background of multiple credentials, continuing education courses and other community involvements took a lot of time, effort, dedication and passion on Lisa's part, and one that she did for personal growth and for you - her clients. It is a feat that not many could do. It can be a long and frustrating road to becoming what you truly want to be, vs. just working to get paid...but a trip well worth it.

Here's to all of those who have the guts to go for their dreams - Congrats!

Dear Lisa,

Thanks again for all of the help and encouragement you've given. When I came to you in September of 2003 my spirits and health were at low ebb. The motorcycle accident and resultant damage and surgery to my shoulder left me feeling very uncertain about my prospects for recovery.

I really appreciate the amount of interest and care that you put into developing a program for me. While challenging, I never felt that we were overdoing it. My progress has been steady and gratifying. I have recovered more range of motion in the injured shoulder than I ever thought possible. I feel stronger and more fit than I have since college. I'm almost back to normal!

I also want to thank you for encouraging me to look at the process as a "whole body" one. I've learned to look at all aspects of life as forever interconnected. The nutritional program we recently began is already paying off. It won't be a quick fix but rather a permanent change in lifestyle. Your steady encouragement and dedication to follow up have kept me going where I otherwise might have slipped off the program. You are a real friend!

I am looking forward to more of the same.

To Whom It May Concern:

It is a pleasure to share my experience as a client of Lisa Dougherty. I first began to work with Lisa in the summer of 2002. Since that time, Lisa has proven to be more than I had expected or hoped for in a trainer, through her enthusiasm, knowledge, and thoughtfulness. First and foremost, she has changed my attitude toward fitness and nutrition with her own positive attitude, emphasizing my personal strengths and interests, and how those can help me reach my goals.

This enthusiasm is underscored by true expertise in her profession. Lisa takes a very knowledge-based approach to nutrition and fitness. She has a deep understanding of different types of foods, different types of muscle groups, and different types of exercises, and how different combinations of each of these three will affect energy levels, overall health, and body shape. In the gym, Lisa always emphasizes technique. She has shown me how to recruit specific muscle groups during an exercise, thereby maximizing benefit from a given motion. In the past I would have thought, doing an exercise is simply that. Now I understand that how you do an exercise is so critically important in order to receive benefits from that work.

Lisa's efforts to help me in my fitness quest extend beyond the gym. She has directed me to books, videos, and websites containing information on nutrition and fitness. She keeps me, and all of her clients specifically in mind when reading articles, and she brings to our attention issues of interest. She encourages me to set small goals that I can accomplish in a reasonable amount of time, all within the framework of a larger goal of lifelong health. Lisa also puts significant effort into keeping workouts fun. There is often a new "toy" to work with in the gym, as well as new and creative exercises that require the collective use of balance, muscle strength, and cardiovascular strength.

In the time I've spent with Lisa, I have lost pounds and body fat, while gaining strength, balance, and agility. I consider this to be a major accomplishment for both of us, as I am not someone with a history of significant fitness or nutritious eating habits. Further I have learned how fitness provides benefits beyond health: workouts are fun! We have a good time together, and I feel fortunate to have found such a counselor to help me with goals I could not realize alone.

To Whom It May Concern:

I met Lisa a little over two years ago through the Nutrition and Fitness Council of Orange County and since then have successfully worked together on several different business projects but more importantly we have forged a great friendship.

Lisa is not only hard working, diligent, and intelligent but she also practices what she preaches so to speak and thus she sets an example for us all by living a healthy lifestyle herself. She is not your normal trainer who counts reps and talks on the phone at the same time. She creates and develops individual workouts and nutritional programs for each person that caters to their fitness level, stamina etc.

In my case for instance she took the time to educate herself on how to train someone who is pregnant as it is very different from training someone who is not. Knowing that she cared enough about me, and the well-being of my unborn child, speaks volumes about her commitment as a health professional.

I have no qualms whatsoever about recommending Lisa because she is truly a genuine honest person with an undeniable work ethic and I think anyone who hires her would be lucky to have her.

To whom it may concern:

If you are looking for an individual with a passion for her work, commitment to her clients, and a high level of professionalism to accompany her skills, Lisa Dougherty is one of the best examples of those traits I've encountered. She truly motivates while she educates, and she does it with a sense of humor too!

My teenage daughter and I began training with Lisa seven months ago. Exercise had been an inconsistent part of my life, and I wanted it to become a more regular commitment of our family's lifestyle. I also wanted someone who could work with us in the area of nutrition. As a full time wife and mom of three school age children, part time corporate officer, and active volunteer, available time was an issue, so the opportunity to find someone who was an educator in both areas as well as "acceptable" to a teenager seemed unlikely. Lisa's name had come to my attention via a well-done mailer, and I was first attracted to her program in order to involve my daughter. I figured that I should go along to "set an example." Lisa has become a positive part of both our lives in so many areas since then. Her bright smile, sincere interest, wealth of facts, and obvious commitment to what she believes in are evident in all that she does. She truly "walks her talk" as an example to both of us in both the areas of fitness and nutrition and motivates us consistently.

Lisa is also well respected by her peers. Her love of her profession and desire to improve everyone's lifestyle is so evident as I see and hear other trainers and their clients seek her out for information and conversation. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and I truly feel that she has impacted on the lives in our family.

Sincerely,

RE: Lisa Dougherty

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been training with Lisa Dougherty for two and a half years now and I am very happy that I found her. Lisa is not only an excellent and knowledgeable trainer but she is also a true professional. Her great personality, strong organizational skills, reliability and kindness make my workouts fun and positive experience.

What distinguishes Lisa from other trainers is that she truly cares about her clients and their progress. She also tailors the training for each person's individual needs instead of running "one fits all" program. Lisa encourages her clients to maintain a healthy life style in general, including healthy eating habits. She often e-mails us interesting articles, health advice, recipes, etc. She also hosts healthy dinner parties at her house for all of her clients.

To summarize, Lisa is an exceptional professional trainer and a wonderful person. She will succeed in any project that she undertakes and I would recommend her to anyone.

To Whom It May Concern:

My professional relationship with Lisa began in April 2003. I was seeking guidance to begin an exercise program after undergoing gastric by-pass surgery in December 2002. At the time of my surgery I weighed 342 pounds.

When I met Lisa I weighed 278 pounds, was unable to walk a flight of stairs without becoming breathless and had absolutely no strength in my upper body. I had no idea how to start an exercise program that I could manage and succeed with.

Prior to our first meeting Lisa prepared a lifestyle questionnaire to complete that included all aspects of my life: career meals, prior exercise programs, injuries, health issues and goal setting.

I began my exercise program with baby steps. I now participate in a balanced workout that includes cardio and strength training. Picking up weights and walking a brisk pace on the treadmill are definitely a new part of a healthy life for this former couch potato.

I continue to be a work in progress. I now weigh about 240 pounds. I have increased strength, endurance and energy. Lisa and I work weekly to establish short term and long-term goals. I am currently focusing on establishing "balance and footing skills" utilizing the BOSU at the gym.

On a personal level I can never remember being greeted by Lisa without a bright smile. She is upbeat and energetic. Between our sessions she is always accessible by phone or email. Her creative ideas have led me to exercise videos, audiotapes and consideration of alternative therapies like massage.

Her focus is on the entire person: mind, body and spirit. I look forward to continued work with her.

To Whom It May Concern,

Four months ago, I came to Lisa Dougherty a very discouraged, physically overweight and unhealthy person. I was reading fitness magazines regularly that offered a lot of helpful information about diet and exercise, but I realized that I even though I had the knowledge and tools at my disposal, I wasn't actually getting up off my couch and DOING anything about it! I knew that the magazines and information inside alone were not enough to inspire me. I needed a professional in my life that could actually motivate and educate me.

I feel so lucky to have found that person! I knew when I first met Lisa that she was serious about fitness. She is in great shape, eats healthy and has endless energy! I knew that she was the trainer I was looking for; someone who leads by example and is a person, both mentally and physically, that I can aspire to be like.

Lisa is extremely knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition and continues to educate herself through classes, certifications and seminars. The programs she teaches for fitness and nutrition are sensible and attainable. She is friendly and enthusiastic and really enjoys educating and helping people change their lives so they can enjoy the many benefits, both mental and physical, that proper eating and exercise can bring.

Her enthusiasm is infectious and I have found myself spreading the word of fitness and healthy eating to my friends and family. I even brought my parents and fiancée in to train with Lisa because I wanted to share with them the gift that she has given me!

I am excited that I have decided to embark on this journey to transform my body, my eating habits and my life. In the time I have trained with Lisa, I have dropped pounds, lost body fat, gained muscle and have found a healthy new way of making food choices! However, I would not have been able to start or continue this journey without the knowledge, support and encouragement that Lisa has given me. Thanks Lisa!

Sincerely,

My name is Colleen Cameron, and I am 41 years old.

My story begins with reading the book "Fit for Life" written by Bill Phillips. I was so moved by everyone's enthusiasm for working out and seeing the transformation of one's body, I was compelled to look for my own personal trainer. While looking through this website, I found a link to personal trainers. I decided to call and telephone interview a few of the personal trainers, Lisa Dougherty being one of them.

Lisa called me later that afternoon. We had an immediate connection. I could feel her enthusiasm without ever meeting her. As we shared my weight loss and training goals, I knew this was the trainer for me. We decided to start training the following week.
From the moment I walked into the gym, Lisa made me feel right at home in a place that can be quite intimidating. She took me for a tour, and then on to my first workout. During our first conversation, Lisa took the time to educate me about breathing, and why it is so important to do it correctly. I never knew what an integral part breathing means to how well one trains with weights for better performance. I couldn't believe that I was getting two specialties for the price of one. She had my full attention as she spoke about the human body; the way it works and what I can do to make it work more efficient.

As Lisa and I started training together, I decided to take her lifestyle weight management program -- another new experience for me. She takes a lot of time to explain the program and how it works in conjunction with my training. It is very thorough and quite extensive. Lisa is extremely passionate about this part of her profession as well as training a client in the gym. It has given me great insight and knowledge about food and what type of foods I need to eat to work out for peak performance.

I consider myself one of the luckiest girls I know because I get to work out with such a terrific person. Lisa has taken the time to study and work at her craft with great precision. This shows through the excitement in her voice and body language as she is explaining training strategies to help me accomplish my goals.

When I wake up in the morning and see my body transform into my "dream machine," I realize that I am achieving my goals because of the special care I receive from Lisa. I have known Lisa now for over a year and-a-half. I not only consider her my trainer, but my friend as well.

Sincerely,

Colleen Cameron

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Jeri Hibbs. I am a 46-year old woman with grown children who works 40 hours per week. I have always enjoyed exercise in my life; which included walking, deep-water aerobics classes and going to the gym. I have always done pretty well with my eating and have kept my weight down throughout my life.

Several years ago things started to change including pre-menopausal symptoms. My weight just kept increasing without any major changes in my eating and exercise habits. General fatigue set in and I just did not feel good at all about myself. Life had to change.
A friend of mine was into weight training and was getting great results. I had also read about how important weight training was for women. The aging process causes us to lose lean body mass. I decided it was time to change my normal comfortable routine and reach out trying something new.

Then I met Lisa Dougherty, my trainer, coach, new friend and one of the most important people in my life. When we first met I knew she was the person that leads by example. She was lean, had nice muscles and the body I wanted!

I started out training two days a week but as we took my measurements, had my body composition test and discussed my goals Lisa advised me to do cardio workouts the other 5 days a week working off 500 calories each day. After my first week of weight training and cardio workouts I wanted to die. I had thought that I was in pretty good shape since I have always done some form of exercise but this was totally different. On my first day, Lisa wanted to see my strength ability and asked me to do some pushups - not girl style! I got down on the floor but could not push myself up. I could not even do a full pushup. Lisa assured me that I'd be able to do ten pushups at some point. I just could not picture it.
As several weeks went by, I decided to sign up for Lisa's Lifestyle Weight Management Program. I wanted to feel that I gave 100% of myself to see if I could change my body. I started my program at 121lbs and 26% body fat. After 16 personal fitness training sessions and doing my cardio daily (8 weeks), I was now at 21.5% body fat - losing 5lbs of fat plus I gained lean body mass.

The results were happening but not without Lisa's coaching and support. Lisa is so motivating, caring and encouraging at all times. She is right there by my side.

Change does not happen over night. It has now been 9 months. I've lost 13lbs of fat and I am down to 15.1% body fat. I can do 43 pushups and I'm getting stronger all the time. My stomach is flattening and I love my shapely arms. My clothes fit beautifully. In the meantime, I turned 47 years old and feel better than ever. I am also in the best shape of my life. Some of my pre-menopausal symptoms have even disappeared.

I can honestly say that Lisa Dougherty's Lifestyle Weight Management Program and training with her really works. It works because she is there for you, if you want to embrace it and follow through.

Thank you Lisa.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am proud to write a letter of recommendation for Lisa Dougherty. I have been a client and a friend of Lisa's for almost a year now. During that time, I have been inspired by her ability to make an impact - both professionally and personally.

Lisa is a highly intelligent, perceptive woman. As a friend and client, I have watched her personal growth and business achievements. I am in particular awe of Lisa's ability to create a goal and obtain it. I believe her success as an entrepreneurial business woman is an example of her exceptional abilities. Because of her positive disposition, her reflective way of operating, and all of the character traits that make her so special, Lisa's questions never go unanswered, and her searches always bring her to exciting new discoveries. I greatly value her friendship and insight.

Always, in her work, Lisa is consistent, dedicated and passionate, enthusiastic, cheerful, and a pleasure to work with. She has incredible creative energies and a refreshing idealism tempered only enough to accomplish what needs to be done. I highly recommend her for any position of work, leadership, education or any other capacity in which she can spread her excitement and share her talents with others. And knowing Lisa, she will not disappoint, and probably will exceed your expectations.

To Whom It May Concern:

As a former employer to Lisa, I am very familiar with the person behind the service.

Lisa has chosen Lifestyle Weight Management Coaching and Personal Training as a career because of her desire to help people and her passion for health and fitness.

I am about 5'6" and my weight has typically been a roller coaster, along with my ability to commit to, and maintain my desired fitness level. I am sure this picture is all too familiar to many. I also have injuries to my knees, shoulders, and neck which prevent me from doing many exercises, but Lisa has taken the time to develop a special fitness program, including cardiovascular work and weight training which I can stick to. I have worked out with Lisa for over 3 years now and enjoy it immensely. The food plan which she has designed specifically for me in the Lifestyle Weight Management Program, prepared with foods I like to eat, is effective an easy for me to follow.

Over the years I have been a member of several different gyms and have worked with several people in the fitness and nutrition profession, none of which have ever taken the time, nor given the energy, Lisa has to my life.

There is a big difference between someone who performs a service to make a living and someone who lives to perform that service!

Every day, along with every new client, brings a challenge to Lisa that I'm sure that she embraces with enthusiasm and care. I am confident Lisa will motivate, educate, and personally cater to your health and fitness needs.

See you at the gym!

I worked out with Robin for 6 months of my pregnancy. Signing up to train with her during my pregnancy was one of the best decisions I could have made! Our bi-weekly training sessions were the entire reason that I was able to maintain a strong level of fitness throughout my pregnancy - and I am certain that had I not been working with a trainer, I wouldn’t had have had the desire or motivation to do any significant amount of exercise on my own. Without fail, after each one of our workouts, I felt stronger and more energized, as well as more positive and confident about being able to face the physical demands of pregnancy and labor.

I would highly recommend Robin to any prenatal client. She is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of prenatal fitness and safety; she has a supportive and upbeat personality; and she’ll keep you motivated and fit during such a physically and emotionally demanding time in your life. I am definitely looking forward to working out with her again once I’ve had my baby, as I know I can count on her to help me to get my pre-baby body back!

I have been working with Robin as my personal trainer for three months on a program to lose weight and become fit. I have made significant progress toward my goals and am on schedule to become fit and to lose 40 pounds.

Robin is very organized and professional. I am an executive with no time to waste, and Robin makes every minute count. She is always prompt and prepared with a well-conceived plan for each workout. She varies the routines to keep it interesting. She motivates and pushes – I always achieve higher levels of intensity with her than I do working out on my own – but she also adjusts the routines to accommodate the inevitable aches and pains that arise from a demanding workout schedule.

Robin is an excellent lifestyle/fitness trainer and coach, and I expect to work with her on maintenance of my condition long after I achieve my immediate goals.

I have been working out with Robin since August 2005 and she has changed my life. I feel very fit and I have gone down 2 ½ dress sizes. She designs her workouts around her clients’ needs. If you don’t like something, she will change it to something else if needed. If you have a problem with a knee or your back, she will work around it.
She pushes you to go the extra mile and that is good.

In short, Robin is flexible, challenging and very upbeat. She cares about her clients and is very involved in getting her clients to their agreed upon goal. She is a very good listener.
